Privacy Policy for UniMap
Last updated: 08/08/2026
Thank you for using Unimap. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how.
No Accounts, No Personal Information Required
UniMap does not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifying information to use the App.
Information You Provide
To personalize your college search, the App asks you to enter certain preferences, such as:
- Your home state and hometown
- Preferred distance from home
- Budget/tuition comfort level
- Intended major
- GPA
- Preferred school size
- Whether you're interested in schools known for a lively social scene
This information is stored only on your own device (using local device storage) and is used solely to calculate match scores and personalize your experience within the App. We do not transmit this information to our servers, sell it, or share it with third parties.
Your saved/favorited schools (Wishlist) are also stored only on your device.
Location Information
UniMap does not access your device's GPS or real-time location. Distance calculations are based on the hometown you manually type in, which is converted to an approximate map location using a third-party geocoding service (Photon by Komoot, OpenStreetMap-based) solely to calculate distances between your hometown and schools.
School Data
UniMap displays publicly available information about colleges and universities, sourced from the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard and other public/licensed sources. This data is about schools, not about you.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services to function:
- Google Firebase — to host and deliver school data and images to the App.
- Analytics services — we may use anonymous, aggregated usage analytics (such as which screens are used or how often the App is opened) to understand how the App is used and improve it. This data is not linked to your name or any personal identifier.
These services may collect limited technical information automatically (such as device type or app version) as part of their standard operation. We do not control how these third parties process such data beyond what's described here; please refer to their own privacy policies for details.
Children's Privacy
UniMap is intended to help students of all ages research colleges, including users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, regardless of age, since the App does not require accounts or personal information to function.
Data Security
Since UniMap does not collect or store personal information on our servers, there is no personal user data for us to secure beyond what already resides locally on your own device, which is protected by your device's own security features.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
